THE WIRE Reviews The World Got Away

THE WIRE’s August 2024 Issue includes a review of Mikel Rouse’s Memoir, The World Got Away. George Grella states: “Right at the start, he writes that the book is ‘a snapshot of a life. Well, my life. But the essential thing is it could be anyone’s life.’ Possible, but not likely. For one thing, there’s Rouse’s sincere, relaxed charm, which comes through in the graceful and conversational writing. The other is that, as he explains and the context of the book also makes clear, he was able to make and present beautiful, powerful, funny, humanist works like Dennis Cleveland and Failing Kansas because he was both in the right place at the right time and took the initiative to make as much happen as possible.” Read the full review HERE.
